Black Friday

28 Nov

We actually started Christmas shopping early, like October. But decided to put a major dent by shopping today…Black Friday.

To prepare, yesterday, we bought the paper, we compared the sales and decided to get up at 4, to make it to Target before 6 (when they opened) NO, I wasn’t going to be crazy and go to the Alderwood Mall or Wal-mart at 4 am…I value my life! I read in the Everett Herald online that the Everett Wal-Mart had a line all the way around the bldg at 4:15 am…I would have NEVER gotten in! I have gone to Alderwood before on Black Friday, from what I heard it wasn’t quite as bad as previous years, but I didn’t want to get trampled this year.

First strike, I woke up late. We left at 8am. Neil dropped me off at Target and went to Car Toys…where the item that we planned to buy was sold out. They told Neil that the one on sale they only had 12 when they opened. It was RIDICULOUSLY on sale, you would have thought they would stock up. BUT after several stores, I noticed that EVERYTHING on sale was sold out. And not because they were busy. I came to one conclusion, the stores advertised some MAJOR sale items to get you into the store, but under-stocked them, so that you couldn’t buy them if you weren’t one of the CRAZY people at the door for 5 hours before open. Instead of while supplies last, they should have put “First 10 People”. I guess it’s incentive for when we have kids that actually ask for things that we HAVE to get them for Christmas. 🙂 At least we have a couple years before Kaeden starts “expecting” certain things to appear under the tree.

At Target, although there were some really good sales, I noticed that most things were regular price. They usually have more and better sale items. The shelves of full priced items were very well stocked. Those are the things that you decide to buy when the item you were there for was sold out. I ended up doing just that. I couldn’t go out on black Friday and NOT buy gifts, so we bought a couple things at full price. There were a couple things, don’t get me wrong, that we bought BECAUSE they were on sale, even though they weren’t on our list, so I guess it was worth it.

SO, in conclusion, our Christmas Shopping List is 17 people long this year and we have 7 gifts left to buy. Not too bad, seeing as though it is still November 🙂

Happy Holidays!

First…Please excuse the giggly mommy in the background. I couldn’t stop laughing, I was CRYING it was so cute…it must be hormones!

Kaeden and Neil were singing this little piggy but Kaeden wanted to share HIS verson of “Piggy home, Piggy home, Piggy-WEWEWEHEHEHEHE!” It was the first time that he used words to sing along (he usually chatters a tune, but nothing you can understand)

Again, Please ignore the mommy in the background 🙂

In between jobs I took a week off. (11/8-16) There happened to be a dry day and we decided to go down to Forrest Park with Kaeden and his bike (the only one of 3 he can actually ride, the others are WAY too big LOL)

Amazingly, the park was completely empty, except for one little girl and her dad. We had a blast. Here’s a peek:

It was a great time! If you stay home with your kids and find yourself wondering what to do on a DRY but cold day…the park may just be empty!

Last Week

23 Nov

About 7 years ago Neil’s younger brother Cameron moved to live with his Dad’s family in Missouri, he was 14, he’s 21 now. Neil has only been able to see him a couple times since he moved, all when we lived in Colorado. BUT Cameron came up to Washington this month and we were happy to have him stay with us for a whole week! He left on Sunday  (11/23)  😦  we miss him already! Hopefully he makes it up next summer for a job that is supposed to happen. This is the first time he’s met Kaeden.

ANYWAY, enough background. We were able to get together with ALL of their cousins Saturday night. It was amazing, they haven’t all hung out together since they were little (long before Cameron moved). So, it was heart warming to see the 5 of them together sharing their stories, having a couple drinks, a ton of laughs and a great time!

Woes of A Toddler Mommy

9 Nov

So, Kaeden has been going through the Hitting/Kicking/Biting stage for a little while. In the beginning we would tell him it isn’t nice..yadda yadda yadda. But it doesn’t work anymore. He hits and bites because he is excited and happy…or sad and angry. He kicks when he is frustrated, or just because you are in his way. So, the nice words about it being something he shouldn’t do, just aren’t working anymore. Time out, well he just doesn’t seem to care. And we really don’t want to spank him for hitting etc.

I think I have decided to try some redirection with it. When he is happy or excited, Clap instead of Biting or Hitting. When you are frustrated or angry, growl-or something. Honestly, I haven’t gotten past the clapping part. I am so discouraged with the hitting and biting that I don’t know what to do.

Don’t get me wrong, I think that a spanking has it’s place and time. But not now, and not for hitting & biting.  I know that our friend, that saw Kaeden hit Neil in the face today to get his attention, was thinking “I would give that boy a spanking and put him in time out, what are they doing?” but for Kaeden, he would see it as us hitting him to punish him for hitting…he’s hard headed. He doesn’t get “hitting is bad” out of a spanking.

So, I dont know how many people are reading…maybe none…but if you have any ideas, or have gone through the same thing, PLEASE share. Thanks!

Halloween was so much fun! Neil was a Pirate, but our friends thought he looked more like Lance Bass(Especially with his new hair cut!)! I was the wicked witch and Kaeden was my little Flying Monkey! He was so so cute! Here we are:

Day Care

1 Nov

So, Kaeden has been going to daycare for about a month. Hopefully, he will start going more regularly. In October, he probably only went 5 times. Poor kid has had enough dr apointments, colds and ickyness in October to last a lifetime. And, since he is part time, he is only signed up to be there from 7am – 12pm. It’s hard to get Neil up at 6:30 to take Kaeden to daycare. BUT, he does love going!

The other day when Neil picked him up the teacher told him how wonderful Kaeden was that day, which was a blessing after other reports that he bit someone! The teacher told Neil that Kaeden played very good that day, ate his lunch and that he even put a puzzle together by himself! Once he was done with the puzzle, he made the teacher come over and see…he was so proud! And I am very proud of him, he is growing up to be such a good little boy!

Hopefully the day care will help him loose his little bad habbits, like the biting. The teacher says that most toddlers bite when they are excited…but he bites hard! I know that it isn’t just our 2 year old that does it, but it sure is discouraging some times.
